KARACHI: Rangers Cricket Club opened their campaign in the Fazal Mahmood National Club Championship with an impressive six-wicket victory over Baldia Gymkhana here at the Annu Bhai Park, Nazimabad on Saturday.
Rangers CC, one of the oldest cricket clubs of the country, lived up to their big reputation in their opening match of the Zone VII tournament being held under the auspices of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
Put into bat, Baldia Gymkhana were bowled out for 167 off 31.4 overs, with Yar Muhammad (38) and Wajid Ali (36) being the top-scorers.
The innings was rocked by left-arm spinner Nasir Ali, who took four wickets for 34 runs while Imran Ali claimed three wickets for 29 runs.
Chasing the target, Rangers CC got off to a flying start with openers Babar Hussain and Ahmed Hussain adding a breezy 55 for the first wicket. Ahmed whacked a couple of sixes and four boundaries before being dismissed for 33 but Babar went on to score 64 with the help of two sixes and 11 fours as his team romped home in only 23.4 overs.
