GORAKHPUR: Police arrested the main accused of Kushinagar hooch tragedy on Saturday. The accused, identified as Doodhnath Chauhan, was arrested while he was trying to escape to Nepal via Gorakhpur, said police.
SP Kushinagar, Rajeev Mishra said, "The arrest was made following a tip-off from informers who tracked him waiting for someone at Salemgarh stop to flee to Nepal."
Doodhnath, who had been on the run, carried a cash reward of Rs 50,000 and is the fourth accused to be arrested by police in connection with deaths due to spurious liquor consumption.
The tragedy had claimed 11 lives in four villages under Tarya Sujan police station.
He has 10 criminal cases, including those under excise act, cheating, Trademark Act, Arms Act lodged against him between 2012 and 2019. Locals claimed to have seen Doodhnath involved in supplying spurious liquor to people, police added.
Earlier, on February 6, police had arrested Rajendra Jaiswal, Hari Nishad, both from Kushinagar while third arrest was made on February 16 when Harindra Yadav, a native of Bihar's Gopalganj, was nabbed from Bhilwara in Rajasthan.
