NEW DELHI: Gun cartridge pellets found during an autopsy from a 30-year-old man’s head, who was found dead in his car near a mall in Sarita Vihar, revealed his murder plot.
Passersby on Tuesday night noticed a Hyundai Accent sedan, in which a man was lying with his head on the steering wheel. Despite repeated knocks on the window, he did not respond and the police was called in.
After breaking the window open, cops found the man unconscious and seized a half-empty bottle of whiskey lying in the car.
The man’s wallet, his phone and other items were also found with him and there was blood on the driver’s seat, which was presumed to be from an injury.
The man, later identified as Mohammad Rasid, was taken to a nearby private hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. However, the cause of death could not be ascertained and cops said that no visible external injury marks were found on the body. His family members were contacted and were told about the incident, and they also suspected no foul play. They told cops that Rasid had a history of drinking too much and losing consciousness.
The body was then moved to AIIMS mortuary where an autopsy was conducted to ascertain the exact cause of death. Doctors found a wound on the head and upon closer examination, the medical team found pellets in his head.
The investigating teams were alerted about the findings and were told that Rasid was shot in the head from a close range. A forensics team was sent to the scene of crime and photographs of the car were analysed, along with the pellets, the left and right hand swabs and viscera samples.

Based on these findings, the inquest proceedings were concluded and a case of murder was registered at Sarita Vihar police station.
Investigating teams scanned CCTV footage of the area to ascertain the car’s movement and took fingerprint samples from the car to identify the suspect. The scene of crime indicated that there was no scuffle or forced entry inside the vehicle, ruling out the involvement of any stranger in the incident. No valuable items were missing as well.
The victim was a resident of Abul Fazal Enclave in southeast Delhi and had left his house in the evening. A few suspects have been detained for questioning by the cops based on the statement of the family members and friends of the deceased.
