Magadh University syndicate approves appointment of 8 principals
GAYA: Magadh University Syndicate, on Saturday evening approved the appointment of eight principals in the constituent colleges of the university including Gaya town based AM College, GBM college and Jagjivan college. The other colleges where Principals have been appointed include KLS college, Nawada and SN Sinha College, Jehanabad.
The posts against which the appointments have been made were advertised in the year 2008.
Twice in the past, appointment of the Principals was quashed by the Patna High court. The SC subsequently upheld the quashing order passed by the HC.
As per the decision of the Syndicate, the apex executive body of MU, Shailesh Kumar Srivastav has been appointed as the new Principal of AM College, Gaya. Javed Ashraf and Rajiv Ranjan have been appointed as the Principals of the GBM College and Jagjivan College respectively.
Vinod Kumar has been appointed as Principal of KLS college, Nawada. Meghan Prasad and Arun Rajak have been appointed as the Principals of TS College, Hisua and SMSG college, Sherghati respectively. Deepak Kumar has been appointed as Principal the Sheodeni Sao College, Kaler (Arwal). Anju Sharma is the new Principal of SN Sinha college, Jehanabad. All these colleges are at present being administered by senior most teachers of these colleges.
According to MU Registrar Col Pranav Kumar, the Principal post appointees have resigned from the teaching positions earlier held by them.
Though the selection committee recommendation on the basis of which Principals have been appointed contained 22 names, only eight of them could finally make it to the post. According to sources in the university’s establishment section, of the 22 names recommended by the selection committee, two have reached the age of superannuation.

The selection committee, ironically enough also recommended the name of a non teacher for appointment as Principal. The selection committee recommendation for appointment of a non teacher as Principal was subsequently turned down. The 2008 advertisement published in the news papers made it clear that only those with ten years of teaching experience were eligible for appointment as Principal. How the non teacher managed to get interview letter as well as selected by the committee headed by the then VC remains a mystery.
Five of the 22 candidates recommended by the selection committee, according to sources in the university figure as accused in criminal case instituted by the Vigilance Investigation Bureau. Appointment letter have not been issued to such ‘tainted’ job aspirants either.
Of the 14 candidates cleared for the appointment, 6 did not submit their joining report. According to the Registrar Col Pranav Kumar, one last chance was being given to the six candidates found fit for appointment as Principal. If they do not report on or before 25 March’2019, the job offer will automatically stand withdrawn and the posts would be notified as vacant.
