Girl set afire by jilted lover in Warangal

A jilted lover doused a 20-year-old degree final year student with petrol and set her afire in front of other students outside their college in Warangal, a stone's throw away from the police commissionerate, on Wednesday morning.

WARANGAL: A jilted lover doused a 20-year-old degree final year student with petrol and set her afire in front of other students outside their college in Warangal, a stone's throw away from the police commissionerate, on Wednesday morning. The girl, who suffered 70% third-degree burns, is now battling for life at a hospital in Secunderabad.
The girl was going to the college at Naimnagar in Hanamkonda when she was stopped by the youth, her classmate and ex-boyfriend, who had been urging her for a while to renew their relationship.
But when she spurned him again, he set her on fire, police said, adding that it was a pre-planned attack as the youth had come with a bottle of petrol. Police said the couple had been in a relationship but the girl had started ignoring the boy's calls of late and he feared that she was no longer interested in marrying him.
Girl suffered 70% third-degree burns, battling for life at hospital
Doctors at Yashoda Hospitals, Secunderabad, said the girl sustained burns on face, chest, abdomen, upper limbs, back and thighs. She also suffered injury to airways and lungs. She has been put on ventilator and her condition is critical.
The youth was caught by locals who handed him over to the police. The girl was initially admitted to MGM Hospital, but later to shifted to Yashoda Hospitals at Secunderabad. The girl is a native of Ramachandrapuram village in Warangal Rural district and stays at a hostel near her college. Warangal police commissioner V Ravinder visited MGM Hospital and recorded the girl's statement.
Later in the day activists of various student unions protested outside the college, demanding stringent action against the culprit.
This is second such attack in Telangana in the last one month. Earlier, an Intermediate student was stabbed by a 19-year-old boy in Hyderabad after the girl's parents and police warned him to stay away from her. The 17-year-old girl was stabbed by jilted lover at Barkhatpura and she suffered nearly 15 deep cuts apart from skull fracture. The boy was stalking and harassing her since past several months. The girl's family has approached police.
