PATNA: Leader of opposition in the state assembly and RJD chief Lalu Prasad’s younger son Tejashwi Prasad Yadav cancelled his proposed rally in Jehanabad on Thursday, citing tensions on the border. He also urged Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi to cancel the NDA rally slated to be held in Patna on Sunday.
“Considering the growing concerns over national security, it was decided in the meeting of 21 opposition parties at New Delhi on Wednesday that no political events should be held under such circumstances.
Accordingly, the rally of Tejashwi Prasad Yadav in Jehanabad has been cancelled till further announcement. Also, the NDA is requested to cancel its rally in Patna on March 3 to show sensitivity,” stated a statement issued by Tejashwi’s office.
RJD functionaries claimed that the rally was cancelled at the last minute even though preparations were in the final stages. “Tejashwi ji was supposed to address a public meet in Jehanabad on Thursday as part of his ongoing ‘Berojgari Hatao, Aarakshan Badhao’ campaign under which he has already addressed rallies in Bhagalpur, Supaul, Darbhanga, Ara and Nalanda as of now. Although all the preparations had been done for the Jehanabad rally, it was called off in the wake of a decision taken in the meet of opposition parties. It shows the solidarity and support of the RJD for the Indian Army,” RJD spokesperson Chitranjan Gagan said.
The NDA, on the other hand, claimed that the rally would, in no way, affect the action being taken by the Indian government.
“The PM remains awake the whole night to keep a tab on the developments regarding the tension on the Line of Control and takes the right decisions. The rally is in no way going to affect his focus. Opposition parties are simply frustrated and giving meaningless statements,” senior BJP leader and state minister Nand Kishor Yadav said.
JD (U) spokesperson Neeraj Kumar went on to ask the RJD to advise its ally Congress to cancel Rahul Gandhi’s rally. “There is no point in shedding crocodile tears when opposition leaders are making all types of political comments against the ruling NDA on the Indo-Pak tension. Besides, why isn’t the RJD asking Congress to cancel the visit of its president Rahul Gandhi to Jharkhand on March 2,” Neeraj asked.
