PIMPRI CHINCHWAD: Shiv Sena’s Shirur MP Shivajirao Adhalrao Patil on Thursday expressed confidence that the Pune-Nashik high-speed railway project would be completed over the next four years.
Patil said that once the project is completed, it would reduce travel time between the two cities by two hours.
Addressing a news conference here, Patil said, “The survey for the project was conducted in 1995-96.
The project was scrapped because it was not found to be profitable. In 2016, the project was approved at an expenditure of Rs2,500 crore. A special purpose vehicle — Maharashtra Railways Infrastructure Company Limited — was formed with the Union and state governments. It will implement 13 projects out of which three will be in phase I, and this project is a priority.”
He said a decision was taken to construct high-speed railway on this route to make it profitable. The total cost of the project will be Rs7,500 crore, out of which Union and state governments will bear Rs1,500 crore each.
