PATNA: Police raided the house of a sorcerer and seized Rs 67 lakhs and illegal weapons from there at Gaura village in Siwan district late on Wednesday night. Five persons, who were allegedly confined there, were also rescued.
Acting on a tip-off, personnel from G B Nagar Tarwara police station carried out the raid on the house of Asgar Mastan, who was allegedly extorting money from people by promising to solve their problems through divine power.

SP (Siwan) Naveen Chandra Jha on Thursday said, “Those who did not follow his (Asgar’s) instructions were chained and confined in one of his rooms.” He added, “We are carrying out raids to catch Asgar who managed to escape under the cover of darkness.”
Apart from the cash, police also seized jewellery and illegal weapons, including a 9mm pistol and a gun, and four mobile phones. The cash included now-demonetised notes of Rs 500 denomination. The foreign currencies were from Oman and Saudi Arabia.
Jha said two women, Sahna Khatoon and Munni Bibi, were arrested for complicity and abetment of crime. He added, “They were produced in a local court and sent to 14-day judicial custody.”
Police lodged a case against Asgar under the Arms and Foreign Exchange Regulation Acts. Jha said, “We are trying to find out if Asgar has any links with any terror outfit.”
