PATNA: A day before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled Sankalp Rally in Patna, one Mohammed Rehan was detained in Banka district early on Saturday for alleged links with the Jaish-e-Mohammed.
According to sources, the CRPF was sent an e-mail alleging that Rehan of Chutia Belari village in Banka had links with the JeM chief Masood Azhar. The mail also alleged that Rehan was involved in the recent Pulwama attack and the 2001 Parliament attack.
It claimed that an elderly woman from Rehan’s family had been trained as a suicide bomber, while his relative Mohammed Naushad used to record all political rallies and speeches and send them to another relative in Jammu and Kashmir.
The CRPF, acting on the tip-off, forwarded the communication to central and state governments, while intelligence and security forces were roped in to verify the claims and alleged links.
The elderly woman mentioned in the mail and Mohammed Naushad are untraced. Raids are being conducted to find them.
Deputy inspector general, Bhagalpur range, Vikas Vaibhav confirmed the detention of Rehan but refused to divulge more information citing national security.
Rehan is currently being interrogated by the NIA and IB. Cops said the intelligence inputs were being verified. Rehan has four brothers – two work with a private firm in Nashik and two are in Saudi Arabia. His wife, Grosia Parveen, is a homemaker and they have four children. Rehan was a cattle farmer.
As per the allegation, Naushad frequently visited Jammu and Kashmir to meet a close relative. His wife and children have been detained and reportedly brought to Patna for interrogation.
Ahead of PM’s rally, intelligence agencies have already sounded an alert in the state while district magistrates and superintendents of police have been asked to maintain extra vigil. The SSB has been asked to intensify patrolling in the districts along the India-Nepal border
