IGNOU opens 5 cells for students
PATNA: The regional office of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has opened five new cells on its Mithapur campus which was recently inaugurated by chief minister Nitish Kumar.
The career guidance and counselling cell, students’ support service centre, alumni cell, placement cell and grievance cell became functional on March 1.
The new IGNOU campus, which is spread over an area of 5,600 square feet, comprises the administrative block, academic block, examination centre and library with state-of the-art facilities.

According to IGNOU’s regional director Abhilash Nayak, earlier, there was no cell to solve students’ problems because of the lack of space at university’s temporary office at Biscomaun Bhawan.
“Now, students can raise issues like irregularities in admission process, fee payment, denial of admission on merit, rejection of applications, reservation quota and scholarships. They can also attend grievance camps which will be organized on the last day of each month,” said Nayak.
The IGNOU-Delhi office has a central placement cell where students get themselves registered. Nayak told this newspaper, “The first placement drive will be organized for students of all branches in the first week of April. We have sent a proposal in this regard to the Delhi office for its approval.”
Besides, the university’s regional office is likely to conduct its first ever alumni meet by the end of this month. A database of passouts has also been prepared.
“While the students’ support service centre will cater to the need of students visiting the regional office by replying to their queries via e-mail, fax and phone, the career guidance and counselling cell will hire experts to help students explore career opportunities in different fields,” said Nayak.
