GAYA: Angry over non-publication of their degree Part-III results, a group of examinees from disaffiliated colleges torched a Ranchi-bound bus and indulged in violence on NH-83 on Wednesday.
Altogether 1.8 lakh students of the undivided MU appeared for the Part III exams held in December last. Recently, the university published the results of only about 1 lakh examinees.
According to university officials, the Patna high court has stayed the publication of rest of the results on account of the unaffiliated nature of their colleges in which these students were enrolled.
MU police station SHO Upendra Kumar Singh said a case was lodged against the arsonists. Asked about their identity, he said the officiating VC told him that the arsonists had come from other places and as such their identity was not known.
One of the examinees said, “How can we know that a college having proper office and classrooms is not formally affiliated. When the university allowed us to sit in the exam, why the fuss over result publication.”
According to MU proctor SNP Deen, no damage was done to university property as its main gate was locked and the agitators could not enter inside. The university has no role to play as the ultimate decision has to be taken by the state government and the high court, the proctor said.
In 2017, 60 colleges were blacklisted by the university for not fulfilling the mandatory conditions of government approval required for the affiliation process. It would be improper to call such colleges as disaffiliated as, in the first place, they were never properly affiliated and were clandestinely running in collusion with the degree mafia having a grip over the university functioning, a senior official said.
