The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) on Thursday approved proposals to augment suburban rail networks in Delhi and Mumbai.
It cleared the Phase-III A of the Mumbai Urban Transport Project costing ₹30,849 crore. The project to be completed in five years will make it more convenient for Mumbai suburban passengers by extending the existing corridors and creating new ones as well introduce new air-conditioned coaches with automatic door closing operation.
Similarly, Delhi Metro’s Phase-4, which would have three additional corridors with a total of 62 km, was also approved. Nod was also given to the third railway line between Narayangarh in West Bengal and Bhadrak in Odisha at an estimated cost of ₹1,866 crore. The project is to be completed by 2023-24.
A plan to revive unused or under-used air strips under the state governments, Airport Authority of India (AAI) as well as CPSEs at a cost of ₹4,500 crore to improve air connectivity, also got approval.
The government also decided to extend Atal Innovation Mission till 2019-20 at an additional expenditure of ₹1,000 crore and extended the National AIDS Control Programme -IV for a period of three years between April 2017 and March 2020. A scheme to give rebate on State and Central embedded taxes to support the textile sector too received approval
The Cabinet also gave its approval to sign an MoU with the UK on cancer research, with Germany on occupational safety and health and with Belarus on mutual assistance treaty.
