    NDA does a UPA-II, gives 17 of 29 Kendriya Vidyalayas in civil category to BJP MPs

    In 2014, UPA-II announced 54 new KVs and 30 of these went to Congress MPs.

    NEW DELHI: The Congress-led UPA did it in 2014 ahead of election announcement and the BJP-led NDA 2 has followed suit five years later. Of the 50 new central schools cleared by the Union Cabinet near overnight, 29 are to be set in civil sector and 17 of the 29 will be in the constituencies of BJP MPs including that of PM Modi.

    In 2014, days before the model code of conduct came into play for Lok Sabha elections, UPA 2 announced 54 new Kendriya Vidyalayas and over 30 of these went to the constituencies of Congress MPs.

    Three KVs had gone to the Gandhi constituencies of Rae Bareli and Amethi in 2014.

    The last big cabinet meeting of the Modi government on Thursday approved setting up of 50 new central schools - 15 of these will be in CRPF, BSF and ITBP complexes, six in Railways and the remaining 29 will be spread out across states.

    ET found that 17 of the 29 will go to the constituencies of BJP MPs.

    Leading from the front this time is Prime Minister Modi, whose constituency Varanasi will get a central school in Bandhakalan.

    Minister of State for PMO, Dr Jitendra Singh will gift two central Schools to his constituency Doda ahead of Lok Sabha polls- in Gandoh Bhalessa and Jodhpur in J&K.

    BJP MP from Koderma in Jharkhand will get another two central schools in Koderma proper and Sarai Kelakharsawan.

    Suresh Angadi of BJP will get a KV in Sadalga in Belgaum while Chandra Prakash Joshi has won a school for his constituency and BJP stronghold in Rajasthan - Pratpagarh.

    BJP’s Ram Swaroop Sharma has won it for Mandi in Himachal Pradesh, while MPs Raj Kumar Saini gets it in Bilaspur and Dinesh Kashyap in Kondagaon in his constituency Bastar.

    Gyan Singh of the ruling party has got a central school for his constituency in Anuppur while Gadchiroli MP Ashok Nete gets to launch a school in his constituency as well.

    Mandsaur, which was at the centre of farmer distress agitation last year, will take some consolation with MP Sudhir Gupta of the BJP bagging a school in Shamgarh. Dewas Lok Sabha constituency represented by BJP’s Manohar Untwal will have a KV in Agar-Malwa.

    Hamirpur MP Kunwar Pushependra Singh Chandel will see a KV in Sumerpur while Niranjan Jyoti will have it in Madhupuri. Former Uttarakhand CM and NDA 1 cabinet minister Bhagat Singh Koshiyari has also got a school for Khatima in his constituency Udhamsinghnagar-Nainital.

    On the other side of the political aisle is the Congress party with Kantilal Bhuria winning a school for Alirajpur - which incidentally voted BJP MLA Nagarsingh Chauhan to power. Two time Congress MP from Ernakulam, K V Thomas, has managed a central school for Thrikkakara in his constituency.

    Congress Ninog Ering, MP for Arunachal East has been lucky with three KVs in his constituency - two of the schools in Namsai and Hayuliang are represented, however, by BJP MLAs.

    BJD MPs will get to claim credit for three KVs- in Charathpur, Gunupur and Anandpur. AIADMK’s C Mahendran will see one KV in his constituency in Udumalpet and YSR Congress’ M R Reddy will have a school in Kandukur in his constituency. TDP’s Jayadev Gulla will be the other opposition politician with a KV in Irlapadu village.
