Purulia stn staff help deliver baby
Purulia: Muskan Kerketa, a 25-year-old from Assam’s Dibrugarh, delivered a baby girl on a Purulia station platform on Saturday evening.
Muskan and her husba-nd Abharan, a construction worker in Chennai, were returning home on Dibrugarh Express. When the train was about 12km from the station, Muskan complained of pain. When it reached Purulia, Abharan got off and sought help for his wife.
A TTE then called the station manager.
Medical staff reached the compartment and help-ed Muskan get off. They realised she was ready to deliver and there was no time to take her to hospital. The st-aff helped her lie down on the platform, surrounded her with pieces of cloth and helped her deliver the baby.
Mother and daughter were then taken to Purulia Sadar hospital, where she was admitted to the maternity ward. They are now in good health. “I am immensely grateful to railway staff for their help,” Abharan said.
