HS Roundup: North Brunswick's Bullock wins national championship

New Balance Indoor Championships

North Brunswick's Jieem Bullock is a national champion.

The reigning StarNewsVarsity Boys Track and Field Player of the Year came in first place in the long jump at the New Balance Indoor Championships in New York. Bullock used a jump of 24-1/4 to claim the title.

Bullock finished in third place at the NCHSAA 3A Indoor State Championships.

BASEBALL

South Brunswick 7, Loris (S.C.) 0

Carl Stidham pitched four shutout innings and struck out five batters as the Cougars (3-2) earned a comfortable win Saturday.

Haiden Lynch went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while Cameron Poole and Austin Hawke each drove in a run. Dalton Sellers scored twice for South Brunswick.

Laney 10, Jacksonville (6 innings)

Sam Garcia pitched a complete game and the Buccaneers (4-0) stayed undefeated on the young season with a victory against the Cardinals.

Jake Ettefagh had two doubles and two RBIs for Laney. Matthew Adam, Brooks Byers and Haydan Pinckney each scored two runs in the win.

Southeastern HomeSchool 6, North Wake Storm 2

Kyle Schoonmaker got the win on the mound and gave up just four hits in four innings as the Cardinals topped the Storm.

Jackson Travis led the SHS offense, going 3-for-4 in the win.

Southeastern HomeSchool 8, Wilmington Christian Academy 3

Noah Sibbett and Caden Lang combined for a no-hitter as the Cardinals knocked off the Patriots. Lang also went 2-for-3 at the plate as the leading hitter.

North Myrtle Beach (S.C.) 8, West Brunswick 3

The Chiefs scored seven runs in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead and seize control in a victory over the Trojans (1-2). 

Jeepie Wilso had two hits for West Brunswick. David Warth and Ethan Reed each had one RBI.  

Other scores: New Life Camp 3, Wilmington Christian Academy 2.

GIRLS SOCCER

Ashley 6, Currituck 1

Hannah Stafford and Mia Hogan each found the back of the net twice Saturday in the Screaming Eagles (2-2-1) blowout win.

Lucy Jennings-Gilbert and Kyla Stewart also scored for Ashley, while Maleah Bainer made three saves.

Corinth Holders 1, Laney 0

The Buccaneers (2-1-1) dropped their first game of the season in a tight loss to the Pirates.

Gray's Creek 3, Topsail 1

Brooke Pacheco scored in the 13th minute, but the Pirates fell to 2-2 on the season.

Briana Vrelus had four saves for Topsail and kept Gray's Creek off the scoreboard in the second half.

BOYS LACROSSE

New Hanover 15, Northern Durham 3

Kyle Hatcher scored six goals as the Wildcats (2-1) cruised past the Knights.

John Murray and Anthony Bowerman each had three goals for New Hanover, and Murray also dished out three assists. Gage Tanner rounded out the scoring with two goals.
