It's battle royale for Secunderabad seat
HYDERABAD: It will be battle royale for the Secunderabad Lok Sabha seat in the general elections as every party is eyeing the prestigious urban seat. The strongest opponents are BJP and Congress, which have held the seat in turns so far. The TRS is aiming to wrest the seat from the BJP this time.

Sitting MP, Bandaru Dattatreya of BJP, had announced during the 2014 elections itself that it would be his last elections from the seat.
He got elected but to his disappointment the senior leader was not inducted into the Union cabinet by Prime Minister Narendra Modi initially. It was clear that Dattatreya was sulking, but in a cabinet expansion later, he was made a minister. But in 2017, Dattatreya who was Union labour minister, was dropped in a reshuffle.
In the LS polls this time, there are at least two contenders for the BJP ticket, including state BJP president K Laxman and G Kishan Reddy. Both had lost in the 2018 assembly polls. While Laxman lost from Musheerabad, Kishan lost from Amberpet.
There are strong contenders for the Congress ticket as well. Former MP, Anjan Kumar Yadav, threw his hat in the ring, laying claim to the seat as he has represented it twice earlier. However, former Indian cricket captain, Mohammad Azharuddin has shown keen interest in contesting from the seat. In 2009, Azharuddin had contested from Moradabad in UP and won. But since he hails from the city, was born and brought up here, Azhar has set his eyes on the Secunderabad seat. To push his case, he recently went to Delhi and met Congress president Rahul Gandhi and party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi.
The TRS lost had lost the seat in the previous elections with its candidate, Bheemsen coming fourth. But in this elections, the party is working out a plan for a win. With BJP and AIMIM having an understanding, it will be an interesting battle to watch out. With the BJP expecting the Modi wave to continue, the Congress feeling resurgent, and the TRS having its own calculations, the fight in Secunderabad LS will be more interesting than ever before. Who the TRS candidate will be is not known at this juncture.
