1,338 Maoist-hit polling booths in Aurangabad, Karakat

AURANGABAD: The district administration has identified 1,338 Maoist-affected polling booths in Aurangabad and Karakat parliamentary constituencies.
Addressing a joint press conference here on Monday, DM Rahul Ranjan Mahiwal and SP Deepak Baranwal said 30 more companies of paramilitary forces will be required to ensure peace in the constituency during the Lok Sabha election. They said a formal proposal has been sent to the Election Commission in this regard.
Regarding preparations, the officials said election in Aurangabad parliamentary constituency will be held in the first phase on April 11 and in Karakat in the seventh phase on May 19.
Aurangabad Lok Sabha seat has Kutumba, Aurangabad and Rafiganj assembly segments besides Gurua, Imamganj and Tekari from Gaya district. Karakat comprises Goh, Obra and Nabinagar assembly segments of Aurangabad district and Nokha, Dehri and Karakat of Rohtas district.
There are total 1,965 polling stations in Aurangabad and 1,934 in Karakat parliamentary constituencies. Of these, 652 polling booths in Aurangabad and 686 in Karakat have been marked Maoist-affected where paramilitary forces will be deployed. There are 17,59,358 voters in Karakat and 17,37821 in Aurangabad.
Officials said 5 extra companies of paramilitary forces would be provided for the area domination campaign to tackle the Maoist challenge. Pending warrants are being executed and preventive action is being taken against antisocial elements, the SP said.
