BENGALURU: A 24-year-old concrete mixer truck driver was allegedly beaten to death by a mob after his vehicle ran over a six-year-old boy in Hebbagodi near Anekal on the outskirts of Bengaluru on Sunday evening. Six people have been arrested in connection with the murder.
Radhe Shyam, who was from Dudhi town in Sonbhadra district of Uttar Pradesh and worked with a private firm as a truck driver, had severe injuries when he was rescued from the mob by police.
He was rushed to Narayana Hrudayalaya Mazumdar Shaw Medical Centre, where he died around 6.40pm.
The child who was mowed down was identified as Arhaan, son of Sadaf, of Hubballi who works in a factory and lives in Kammasandra, Anekal.
According to police, Sadaf was riding a Honda Activa with his son and relative Reshma on Vinayak Nagar Main Road around 6pm and shifted lanes when he noticed a stationary car ahead. Radhe Shyam, who was right behind, failed to notice that Sadaf had entered his lane and ended up rear-ending the scooter.
Reshma and Arhaan were thrown off the two-wheeler. While Reshma fell to the left, Arhaan landed on the right and was run over by the truck. He died instantly. Locals gathered at the spot, tied up Radhe Shyam and assaulted him with sticks before abandoning him on the roadside.
Alerted by passersby, police rushed to the spot but by then, Arhaan and Reshma had been taken to hospital. They found a grievously injured Radhe Shyam and rushed him to Narayana Hrudayalaya Mazumdar Shaw Medical Centre, where he succumbed to internal bleeding though he suffered no external injury.

Police found out he had been brutally thrashed by the mob. Deputy superintendent of police Nanjunde Gowda said Rakesh, Eshwari, Pramod, Ravi, Anand and Prakash, all aged between 25 and 30, have been arrested for his murder.
Hebbagodi police registered a suo motu case under IPC sections 302 (murder), 149 and 143 (unlawful assembly and punishment for unlawful assembly). Investigation revealed Radhe Shyam had recently come to Bengaluru for construction work. A case of negligent driving was registered against him.
Radhe Shyam’s body was shifted to Victoria Hospital for postmortem. His parents, who have been alerted about the incident, are yet to arrive in the city.
