BENGALURU: The Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) will soon start work on the advanced metering infrastructure project, wherein 17,615 domestic and commercial meters in Tumakuru city will go smart.
Tumakuru Smart City Ltd (TSCL) has identified three feeders in Tumakuru town for the project, which will be executed at a cost of Rs 17.5 crore.
Bescom recently floated tenders for the project and works will be awarded in May.
The entire project is expected to be completed by May 2020, said Bescom officials.
“Bescom has been chosen by TSCL as the special purpose vehicle for the project. We will procure the meters and provide end-to-end advanced metering infrastructure. Earlier plan was to include the entire Tumakuru town in this project. For some reason, this was brought down to 17,615 consumer meters instead. We’ve plans to upgrade these meters, which will have all advanced metering technology features,” said CK Sreenath, deputy general manager (smart grid and electric vehicle), Bescom.
“TSCL requested Bescom to call tenders for advanced metering infrastructure, which will offer bi-directional communication. From a central control centre, we can read all electrical parameters. We can also remotely disconnect, reconnect power supply and monitor quality parameters,” he added.
