From September, the Guernsey Apprenticeship will include three new subjects – adult care, early years and retail management.

These additional subjects have been introduced as a direct response to industry needs and training requirements.

College staff have been in discussion with representatives from these sectors to agree the course framework, content and scope of the apprenticeships, which will be launched to employers on Monday 25 March 2019.

The Guernsey Apprenticeship, formerly known as The Guernsey Apprenticeship Scheme, celebrates 70 years this year and has adapted to industry needs since its inception.

A broader range of study options within a flexible learning environment will be offered to students through the new subjects.

College principal Louise Misselke said: ‘The Guernsey Apprenticeship has contributed significantly to Guernsey’s economic success over many years.

‘We are delighted to be extending it to encompass these three new key local sectors and look forward to working with employers to achieve their and our students’ future success.’

The launch event is open to any employers operating in the adult care, early years or retail sectors who want to learn more about the programme. They will have the opportunity to meet subject lecturers, ask questions and meet others in their industry.

  • The event will be held on 25 March at the Princess Royal Centre for the Performing Arts from 6pm until 7.30pm.
