NEW DELHI: A youth driving an app-based cab was left to die after being stabbed in the neck by the passengers near Bakkarwala village in outer Delhi. He was also robbed of the car, mobile phones and cash by the attackers.
DCP (outer) Seju Kuruvilla said that the white Hyundai Xcent car has been recovered and three suspects have been detained. A case of robbery has been registered at Mundka police station.
The youth, Rohit, said that he started driving the cab two weeks ago.
He lives with his sister in Gautam Budh Nagar.
On Monday night, two men boarded the cab and asked him to drop them to Bakkarwala village. After driving for two hours, when he reached the destination two more men boarded it. “When I asked for the payment, they told me to drive to a nearby ATM so that they could withdraw cash. I drove for 2-3 kilometres and stopped in front of an ATM kiosk. The men then overpowered me and snatched my two mobile phones, debit card and cash,” Rohit told police.
The men asked Rohit for his ATM card’s PIN. When he refused, they started thrashing him and in the ensuing scuffle stabbed him in the neck with a knife. They then pushed him out of the car and drove away with his cash and valuables.
The cab driver tried to chase them, but lost unconsciousness due to excessive loss of blood and fell into a ditch. He lay in a pool of blood the entire night till he was spotted by locals in the morning. They took him to a nearby hospital where the doctors treated him and called the PCR.
CCTV footage of the area is being scanned to identify the robbers.
The dossiers of local criminals are also being checked to ascertain their involvement in the crime.
