Another talented Bronco will be playing for a new team in 2019. Shaquil Barrett is headed to the NFC South. Per Adam Schefter, the talented edge-rusher out of Colorado State will be headed to the Buccaneers on a one-year ‘prove it’ deal worth $5 million dollars.

Barrett had been one of Denver’s unsung heroes on defense since his emergence during the Broncos’ Super Bowl 50 campaign. Despite being drafted five rounds later than fellow rotational edge-rusher Shane Ray, Barrett quickly proved to have the talent to start opposite Von Miller.
Following Demarcus Ware‘s retirement, it seemed the Broncos’ plan heading into the 2018 season was to utilize Barrett more. Bradley Chubb falling to the fifth pick changed that, and Barrett was ready to search for a starting role elsewhere.
During his time in Denver, Barrett totaled 137 tackles, 35 quarterback hits, 14 sacks, and an impressive seven forced fumbles. Barrett also earned an overall grade of 79.9 from Pro Football Focus for his four years of play with the Broncos.
The move will undoubtedly leave a hole in the Broncos’ pass-rushing depth, which has helped Von Miller and Bradley Chubb stay fresh. As Ray is also a free agent, look for 2018 undrafted free agent Jeff Holland to have a good shot at more playing time in 2019.
