PATNA: Unidentified criminals shot dead Mohammad Khushdil (38), general secretary of JD(U)’s Katihar district unit, on Telta-Baluganj road under the Balrampur police station in the district around 9.30pm on Thursday.
The deceased was a resident of Rampur Hardar village under the same police station. His wife, Momina Khatoon, is the mukhiya of Rampur Hardar panchayat.
Katihar SP Vikash Kumar said Khushdil was returning home from Dalkhola on a motorcycle.
“One of the accused has been arrested. Initital investigations revealed that Khushdil had an altercation with the criminals before he was killed,” the SP said.
An empty cartridge was recovered from the spot and a pellet retrieved from the deceased’s body during postmortem. “Khushdil died of multiple gunshot injuries,” the SP said, adding the victim was alone at the time of the incident and the spot was barely a kilometre away from his house. “It appears that Kumar was killed over an old enmity and fight for political supremacy. The arrested accused, Sanjeev Mishra, a district board member, is suspected to be prime conspirator in the murder.”
