Sumalatha to contest from Mandya as independent candidate

She will be contesting against actor Nikhil Gowda from JDS.

Sumalata, actor and wife of late Kannada actor and former Union Minister M.H. Ambareesh, formally announced her decision to contest from Mandya Lok Sabha constitency as an independent candidate.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday, she formally announced her decision in the presence of some prominent Kannada film stars. She was flanked by actors Yash and Darshan.

She will be contesting against actor Nikhil Gowda from JDS in what promises to be a high profile battle. Nikhil is the son of Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy.

Sumalatha has been holding road shows in Mandya and taking on the Gowda family. She has also been meeting BJP leaders and disgruntled Congress leaders.
