NAWADA/PATNA: A Maoist was killed in an encounter with personnel from CRPF’s Cobra battalion and the district armed police in a forest near Chordiha village under Rajauli police station in Nawada district early on Monday.
As police personnel were about to reach Chordiha village close to Jharkhand border, a group of Maoists started firing. The security forces retaliated, causing bullet injuries to one of them.
According to sources, the deceased was identified as Karu Angeri, a close associate of zonal commander Pradumna Sharma and a resident of the village, managed to escape from the spot.
ASP (operation) Kumar Alok said police had information about a number of Maoist leaders at the village. “A search operation is on. One
rifle and some edible items have been seized from the spot. It seems that they had taken shelter in the village for quite sometime,” he added.
Meanwhile, three companies of BSF reached Patna on Monday. They will be deployed in Maoist-hit districts. Earlier, 55 companies of central forces, who had reached the state, were later dispatched to Nawada, Jamui, Aurangabad and Gaya on polls duty.
