"For the safety of the responders, for the safety of Mr. Cain and his daughter as well," Sgt. Brad O'Dell said. "We did not believe that there was any sort of imminent threat to the public. Otherwise, we would have issued some sort of statement or press release at that time or notified those people in the area." (SBG)

ROSEBURG, Ore. - A Roseburg man is in jail after a standoff with law enforcement that lasted 2 weeks.

On March 4, a Douglas County circuit court judge ordered Stephen Adam Cain to give up his 3-year-old daughter to law enforcement.

Cain barricaded himself and his daughter in his Roseburg home, threatening authorities not to enter, according to authorities.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office said they didn't tell the public right away about the stand off for safety reasons.

"For the safety of the responders, for the safety of Mr. Cain and his daughter as well," Sgt. Brad O'Dell said. "We did not believe that there was any sort of imminent threat to the public. Otherwise, we would have issued some sort of statement or press release at that time or notified those people in the area."

Cain agreed Monday to surrender to law enforcement and release the child.

He is facing charges of custodial interference and obstructing judicial administration.
