BJP MLA shot at in Lakhimpur Kheri during Holi festivities
SHAHJAHANPUR: BJP MLA Yogesh Verma was shot at by unidentified car borne assailants in Lakhimpur Kheri district on Thursday. This incident happened while Verma was playing Holi with his supporters and party workers in Lakhimpur. Verma is undergoing treatment at a private hospital and his condition is stable.
According to reports, the assailants came in a car and allegedly opened several fire at Verma and one of the bullets hit him in his leg.
Several people, including local police officials and security guard of the MLA, were present at the time of incident but the assailants managed to escape from the spot. Verma was rushed to a private hospital where his condition is stable.
The gunner of Verma has been suspended by SSP and security around the hospital is also increased. Verma is an MLA from Lakhimpur Sadar constituency of Lakhimpur Kheri district and had often protested against the local mafias. Police is suspecting the role of mining mafias behind this attack.
Circle officer Lakhimpur Sadar Vijay Anand told TOI, "BJP MLA Yogesh Verma was shot at in his leg unidentified persons during Holi celebrations in Lakhimpur city. Fortunately, Verma's injury wasn't major and his condition is stable. We are waiting for a complaint to be given by Verma for filing an FIR. Mining mafias are suspected to be behind this assault."
District Magistrate Shailandra Singh and SSP Lakhimpur Kheri Poonam (who uses her first name only) arrived at the hospital after getting the information about the incident. No FIR was lodged till the filing of this report.
