HYDERABAD: Nama Nageshwara Rao, who joined the TRS on Thursday after bidding adieu to TDP, was booked by Warangal police three days before the December 7 assembly election upon a confession by three persons, who were caught transporting unaccounted money of 5.8 crore in a vehicle. The Warangal police are waiting for the forensic report to go the whole hog against Rao, who has also four criminal cases filed against him.

"Based on the confessions of the trio, Nageshwara Rao and a couple of others were named as accused. We are yet to question Rao as we are waiting for the forensic reports to know if any WhatsApp-based conversations had been exchanged between the trio and Rao or his relatives on the money transactions,'' ACP (Jangaon division) Vinod Kumar told TOI.
The Warangal police said the source of 5.80 crore is yet to be ascertained. Based on the confession of the trio, cops believe that the cash belonged to Keerthi Kumar and during the course of investigation the name of businessman Sunil Kumar of Hyderabad surfaced.
As per an affidavit filed by Rao in November before the December elections which he contested and lost to Puvvada Ajay Kumar of TRS in Khammam assembly seat, there were four criminal cases against him apart from the case registered by Jangaon cops. Among the cases booked include an alleged adultery in Hyderabad and staging a protest in connection with Babli project stir registered by Dharmabad police in Maharashtra.
