ECI official to visit Nawada, Bhagalpur today
PATNA: Election Commission of India (ECI) deputy commissioner Chandrabhushan Kumar would visit Nawada and Bhagalpur on Saturday to oversee preparations for elections. In Nawada, parliamentary as well as assembly byelection would take place simultaneously on April 11.
Chief electoral officer (CEO) H R Srinivasa told TOI over the phone that deputy commissioner was presently in Jharkhand to take stock of the situation, He will reach Patna and then travel to Nawada and Bhagalpur on Saturday.

“As Nawada will witness simultaneous parliamentary and assembly polls, Saturday’s meeting with ECI deputy commissioner Chandrabhushan Kumar assumes significance. Several senior officials from state government, including the DMs and SPs of the two districts, will attend the meeting,” he said.
Nawada, Aurangabad, Gaya and Jamui parliamentary constituencies will go to polls in the first phase. A review meeting to oversee poll preparations was held in Gaya on Friday.
Srinivasa said that from Nawada, the deputy commissioner along with other officials will travel to Bhagalpur for reviewing situation for second phase of parliamentary elections in which Kishanganj, Katihar, Purnia and Banka will go to polls along with Bhagalpur.
Additional CEO Sanjay Kumar Singh, in a press release, said in both the meetings at Nawada and Bhagalpur, ADG (headquarters), IG (operations), divisional commissioners, zonal IGs, DIGs of respective ranges along with all districts magistrates and superintendents of police will be present.
While in the first phase, all four parliamentary constituencies are Maoist-infested, Banka will be the lone constituency in second phase where Reds have a presence.
Nawada DM Kaushal Kumar said the district administration was gearing up for simultaneous polls. “All necessary security arrangements are being made to conduct smooth and a free and fair election,” he said.
