NEW DELHI: A day after Jitin Prasada scare in Uttar Pradesh , the Congress on Saturday was again on the back foot, this time in Maharashtra.
The party, which has lost quite a few leaders ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, was troubled by reports of a viral audio clip of former Maharashtra chief minister Ashok Chavan in which he purportedly talks about possible resignation from the party.
"No one listens to me ... I am considering whether I should resign," Chavan is purportedly heard saying in the audio clip.

The former chief minister of Maharashtra has not commented on the alleged audio clip so far.
However, he has also not denied the clip officially.
According to reports, the former CM is upset with the Lok Sabha ticket distribution in Maharashtra.
Interestingly, the Congress party has also not declared its candidate for Nanded Lok Sabha Constituency, currently represented by Chavan.
In Maharashtra, the party has fielded K C Padavi from Nandurbar, Kunal Rohidas Patil from Dhule, Charulata Khajasingh Tokas from Vardha, Manikrao G Thakarey from Yavatmal-Washim, Eknath Gaikwad from Mumbai-South Central, Bhausahib Kamble from
Shirdi and Navinchandra Bandivadekar from Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg.
The Congress is contesting the polls in alliance with the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in the state where 48 Lok Sabha seats are at stake.
On Friday, there were reports of former Union minister Jitin Prasada planning to quit the Congress and join the BJP.
Prasada also did little to end the speculations as he evaded a direct reply to a pointed question asked by a reporter.
When asked about the reports, Jitin Prasada refused to give a categorical denial and instead said "why should I answer a hypothetical question."
There are reports that the former Union minister is miffed with the party leadership over not being consulted over the distribution of tickets in the Sitapur and Lakhimpur-Kheri districts.
