600 additional police personnel to arrive in Nashik

NASHIK: The Nashik city police would be getting additional 617 police personnel for necessary bandobast to ensure free and fair Lok Sabha election. Apart from this, the police would also be getting 683 Home Guards for assistance.
With the elections fast approaching the city police said they were taking all steps to ensure that there was not dent to law and order in the city.
For this they are taking various preventive measures for keeping the anti-social elements and criminals on record under check.
City police commissioner Vishwas Nangre-Patil said, “We have already started externing criminals from the city. Recently action against a person from Sinnar Phata, Nashik Road was taken under the Maharasthra Prevention of Dangerous Activities (MPDA) Act, while 30 people have been externed so far since January 1 this year.”
He added, “There are a total of 1,105 polling booths in the city of which 43 are critical. The concerned police officers of the ranks of DCP, ACP have already visited the polling booths places to take stock of the situation for better planning of bandobast.”
Meanwhile, there are as many as 1,249 arms-license holders in the city. Recently, Nangre-Patil had formed a committee for verification of the license holders and check the need of confiscating their arms during the election period. The committed found that 240 arms of 225 arms-license holders need to be seized.
Accordingly, the process was initiated and 85 arms have already been seized. Ever since the model code of conduct came into force, we have registered 34 prohibition-related cases and arrested 34 people.
