A 19-year-old Clearwater man is dead after the car he was a passenger in veered off Interstate 95 in Boynton Beach on Sunday morning and rolled several times, state troopers said.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer driven by Abimael Dedho-Baltazar, 21, of Clearwater, was traveling south on I-95 just north of Boynton Beach Boulevard after 5 a.m. on Sunday when the car swerved off the road and into the grass.

When the car hit the grass embankment it became airborne before colliding with some of the brush, rolling over several times and then hitting a palm tree, troopers said.

When the Lancer was airborne, two of its passengers were thrown from the car.

One of those passengers, Virrey Perez Neria, 23, of Lake Worth, was seriously injured. Troops say he wasn’t wearing a seat belt. He was taken to Delray Medical Center.

The other passenger was the 19-year-old who was pronounced dead at the scene. Police hadn’t yet released his name because his family hadn’t yet been notified.

The driver, Dedho-Baltazar, also suffered serious injuries and was taken to Delray Medical Center.

The Florida Highway Patrol said testing to determine whether or not the crash was alcohol-related was pending.
