Giriraj to contest from Begusarai: Amit Shah

Giriraj to contest from Begusarai: Amit Shah

PATNA: BJP national president Amit Shah on Wednesday asked Union minister Giriraj Singh to contest from Begusarai parliamentary constituency. He also assured the firebrand Hindutva leader to resolve all his problems arising from the peculiar situation in which he had been placed after being shifted from his sitting Nawada seat, which has gone to Lok Janshakti Party (LJP).
The constituencies of none of the other four Union ministers from Bihar — Radha Mohan Singh (East Champaran), R K Singh (Ara), Ashwini Kumar Choubey (Buxar) and Ram Kripal Yadav (Patliputra) — was changed.

Giriraj, who had been earlier fuming and fretting at the party’s state unit for being shifted to Begusarai, met Shah in Delhi on Wednesday. After their meeting, Shah tweeted: “Sri Giriraj Singh Bihar ke Begusarai se Lok Sabha chunaw ladenge. Unki saari baton ko maine suna hai, aur sangathan unki sabhi samasyaon ka samadhan nikalega. (Giriraj Singh will be contesting from Begusarai in Bihar. I have heard all his problems and grievances, and the organization will find solution to all his problems).” Shah also wished “all the best for him.”
This is the second time that Giriraj will contest Lok Sabha election after his victory from Nawada in 2014. It is also for the second time that such a confusion has been caused around his candidature. In 2014, he wanted to contest from Begusarai, but the party shifted him to Nawada and brought sitting MP from there, late Bhola Singh, to his native district Begusarai.
Former JNU students’ union president Kanhaiya Kumar is the CPI candidate from Begusarai. Besides, RJD is most likely to field its former contestant from the seat, Tanveer Hassan, who had polled 3.9 lakh votes in 2014.
For a backdrop, Giriraj’s position had been further complicated by the fact that the party’s MLC, Rajneesh Kumar was also in the race for the party ticket from Begusarai, his native district. Sources said he had the support from powerful lobbies both in the state BJP and the JD(U).

Not surprisingly, soon after the announcement of candidates by the NDA on March 23, Giriraj started showing his reluctance to contest from Begusarai and kept saying that he didn’t have any grudge against the central leadership, but with the state leadership.
Now, Shah appears to have removed the possible thorn that Giriraj could have found in the presence of Rajneesh by issuing his personal tweet.
