PATNA: The announcement of former state minister Chandrika Rai’s candidature from Saran on Friday against the wishes of RJD chief Lalu Prasad’s younger son Tej Pratap Yadav may widen rift in the family.
Rai is the estranged father-in-law of Tej, who has filed a divorce petition against his wife Aishwarya Rai.
Soon after the announcement of candidates of Mahagathbandhan in Bihar for the last five phases of the ensuing Lok Sabha polls, rumours started doing the rounds that Tej was mulling to contest against his father-in-law from Saran.

“Tej felt insulted and humiliated over the party’s decision to field Rai from Saran. He (Tej) will contest the polls against him as an independent candidate,” news agency IANS quoted an RJD insider saying.
Tej, however, denied it. “There is nothing like that. I am not bothered who is contesting the election from which constituency,” Tej told TOI on Friday afternoon.
However, all is not well with Tej, who resigned as Chhatra RJD patron on Thursday. Through a cryptic tweet, he had also challenged people not to undermine him. “Naive are those who think I am naive. I know exactly who stands where,” Tej had tweeted.
On being asked about Tej’s tweet, Tejashwi told reporters on Friday: “Didn't you see his statement that he’s my Krishna and I’m his Arjun?”
Though Tej and Tejashwi are seldom being seen together for nearly a year now, the former repeatedly says Tejashwi is his “Arjun”. Tej has also not been living with his family ever since he filed the divorce petition in November last.
