PATNA: Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) has declared the intermediate examination results on Saturday with overall pass percentage registered at 79.76%. The number of students who cleared the class XII examination has improved marginally up by 26.81% in comparison to last year's 52.95%.
Total 12,78,655 candidates appeared for class XII board exam in all three streams- science, commerce and arts, of which 10,19,795 succeeded while 2,95,587 flunked the exams.
Out of 10,19,795 students, who cleared the intermediate examination 2019 today, 5,83,337 were boys while 4,36,458 were girls.
The pass percentage for arts has been recorded at 76.53%, commerce at 93.02% and science at 81.2%.
State education department additional chief secretary RK Mahajan and Bihar board chairman Anand Kishor jointly announced the results here at BSEB headquarter before it was uploaded on Board's official website www.biharboardonline.gov.in, www.bsebbihar.com and www.bsebinteredu.in.
Rohini Prakash from Plus-2 High School Sarbahdi, Nalnada and Pawan Kumar from Government High School Kinjar, Arwal were emerged as the state topper by securing 94.6%. Both the toppers scored 473 marks out of 500 in science stream. Satyajeet Suman from Neelmani High School, Samastipur and Subhakar Kumar from Project Senior Secondary School, West Champaran jointly secured the second spot in science stream with 94.4%. The third topper was Mohammad Ahmad from Durga Prasad High School, Katihar by securing 94.2%.
In commerce stream, Satyam Kumar from SKR College, Sheikhpura, Sonu Kumar from College of Commerce, Arts and Sciences, Patna and Shreya Kumari from Project Balika High School, West Champaran secured 94.4%, 94% and 93.8% respectively.
In arts stream, the toppers- Rohini Rani from St Teresa's Girls High School, Bettiah and Manish Kumar from Gaya College scored 92.6%. Vikash Kumar from Baidyanath High School, West Champaran and Mahenoor Jahan from National Academy High School jointly secured second spot with 92% while the third toppers Harshita Kumari and Nishikant Kumar Jha both from Simultala Awasiya Vidyalaya, Jamui scored 91.6%.
Total 4,26,915 students make it to first division, 5,50,844 passed with second division and 42,036 with third division. Total 174 results were pending. Students, who failed in exam, can apply for scrutiny which will begin online from April 3.
This year the students, who appeared for the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB), did not require to write their names, roll number, registration number, year of examination and subject code on the answer-sheets as these information were already there in their answer-sheets.
Addressing the presser here on Saturday, Kishor said that the pass percentage of class XII students and toppers have increased because of moderation policy adopted by the Board. "Special training was given to evaluators about the new policy of evaluating the answer copies," he said.
The evaluation of answer copies of Class XII was started from March 2 at 136 evaluation centres in Bihar and it was concluded on March 20.
He added: "It was the first time that Bihar Board has announced the results in March."
The Board deputed the computer operators at evaluation centres for tabulation work. All the computers are attached to the BSEB headquarters in Patna which automatically receives all information, including marks, related to a student."
RK Mahajan attributed the increase in success rate of students to the efforts of Board chairman Kishor in revamp of question pattern from this year. "Due to changes in the question pattern by the Bihar board significant improvement in results was seen this year," he said adding that the number of higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) was also reduced and more options were given to students in questions asked in the exams.

Around 13, 15,371 students had written their examinations between February 6 and February 16 at 1339 exam centres across the state. Practical examinations were held in January. The exams were conducted in two different shifts morning as well as afternoon.
