Telangana: Six arrested for poaching leopard in Ramagundam

HYDERABAD: Ramagundam police, on Friday, arrested six persons involved in leopard poaching by electrocution and seized the skin and nails from their possession.
Ramagundam Commissioner of Police V Satyanarayana said, “The accused poached the leopard in Bondra in Regunta of Maharashtra located on the banks of Pranahita river. They hid the tiger skin in Nilvai of Chennur in Mancherial.
CCS police conducted searches in the house of the accused seized the leopard.”

The arrested accused were identified as P Ramesh, P Vasanth, A Dilip, A Raju, G Bapu, and K Rajanna.
The police said the poachers used live electric wire to kill the leopard. “After getting information about the movement of the leopard from locals, the poachers used binding wire and connected it to the power line. On March 1, the leopard got electrocuted. After skinning it, they dried the skin in the forest for three days after which they tried to sell it for ?12 lakh,” said Satyanarayana said.
Police also seized knives used to skin the animal.
So far, Ramagundam police have booked 34 cases and bound over 222 suspected poachers and smugglers for good conduct. They warned them of using the PD Act against them if they are involved in more than one offence.
