PUNE: The students of National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) are facing several problems, including lack of books, late confirmation of registration, unresponsive staffers and technical glitches in downloading hall tickets.
With just a few days to go before the examinations begin, some parents as well as students are expressing their discontent on social media and tagging the institute.

An aggrieved parent said, “My son enrolled with NIOS for Class XII. We paid the fee and completed the online process in July but we received the confirmation only in October. The delay in getting the books was even worse since those arrived in January. Even the set is incomplete as my son is yet to receive the book for biology.”
However, books are the least of her problems. Her son’s theory exams begin on April 2 and he is yet to get his hall tickets, event for the practical tests. “The practical exams were supposed to get over by March 30. When we try to download the hall tickets, an error claiming the roll number is invalid pops up. We have paid the fee, uploaded the photograph and filled the form completely. All his future plans are based on this exam,” she shared.
The NIOS official Twitter handle, which announced that students must download hall tickets on March 13, has a string of comments stating that they are unable to do so.Some students have downloaded the hall tickets but they claim the subjects mentioned are not what they chose.
When contacted, NIOS regional director of Pune Saumya Rajan said, “There is an entire detailed process of registration, confirmation and book delivery that NIOS follows to ensure transparency and be systematic at all levels. The books mostly remain undelivered due to lack of detailed entry of address by candidates. The non-availability of hall ticket is either due to unpaid exam fee or non-submission of photos by candidates.”
