13 injured in bus accident near Coimbatore

As many as 13 passengers, including two children, were injured when a bus in which they were travelling met with an accident on a bridge on the Salem-Coimbatore road early Sunday morning.

According to police, the omni bus from Pattanamthitta in Kerala was proceeding to Bengaluru with 26 passengers. At around 2.20 a.m. the bus went out of control and hit the barricade wall of a bridge on the six-lane Salem-Coimbatore road and was hanging from the bridge precariously.

Fire service personnel and the police from Avinashi rescued the passengers. The driver, Jaison (50), was rescued after nearly an hour.

Seven men, four women, and two children, who were injured, were treated at Avinashi government hospital and sent to a private hospital in Coimbatore for further treatment.
