Modi to address election rallies in Jamui, Gaya today

Modi to address election rallies in Jamui, Gaya today
PATNA: PM Narendra Modi is to formally launch the NDA’s Lok Sabha election campaign in the state from Jamui and Gaya on Tuesday. Election in both the constituencies, along with Nawada and Aurangabad, is slated for April 11.
Police source said PM will land at Gaya airport around 2pm on Tuesday and he will fly for Jamui by a helicopter. After addressing public meeting there, he will return to Gaya around 4.45pm.
There could be a minor change of 10-20 minutes due to security reasons, especially in the wake of Maoist call for bandh in Magadh region the same day, a senior police officer told TOI on Monday.
Sources said PM will address an election rally near Nariyana bridge in Khaira block in favour of NDA candidate Chirag Paswan, who is the son of Union minister and LJP chief Ram Vilas Paswan. Chirag is seeking re-election from Jamui against RLSP’s Bhudeo Choudhary, a former MP.
Modi will seek votes for JD(U) candidate Vijay Kumar Manjhi at Gaya’s Gandhi Maidan around 5pm. Former CM Jitan Ram Manjhi is the HAM(S) candidate from Gaya.
CM Nitish Kumar, Paswan, deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi, state’s agriculture minister and Gaya MLA Prem Kumar, legislative council’s former chairman Awadesh Narayan Singh and BJP’s state general secretary Rajendra Singh will also share dais with PM at Gaya. Coincidentally, it would be the CM’s first election rally in this election.
At Jamui, BJP national general secretary and Rajya Sabha member Bhupender Yadav, its state president Nityanand Rai, road construction minister Nand Kishore Yadav, health minister Mangal Pandey, former minister and JD(U) leader Ashok Choudhary, LJP MP Ramchandra Paswan and former minister Samrat Choudhary also would address the rally.

Coincidentally, both Jamui and Gaya are reserved constituencies for the members of scheduled castes. In 2014, BJP’s Hari Manjhi had won the Gaya seat, but it went to JD(U) quota this time in the seat-sharing arrangements among the NDA partners BJP, JD(U) and LJP.
In Gaya, security agencies have virtually sealed the town to ensure no antisocial elements reach up to the rally venue. A senior IPS officer said the Maoist-sponsored Magadh bandh call would have little impact on the PM’s rally as the Left-wing extremists would not dare come on the roads to enforce bandh due to heavy presence of central forces in the district. The bandh call might have little impact in Imamganj and Dumaria as security forces avoid those routes due to their proximity with Jharkhand border, he said.
