Guntur MP Galla Jayadev has shot into fame when he confronted Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Lok Sabha by calling him Mr Prime Minister. Although Jayadev is fully satisfied with his performance in Lok Sabha, he wanted to set more focus on the development of the constituency if gets elected in the coming elections.
Excerpts from an interview with TOI:
Q: How do you feel about your maiden stint in Parliament?
A: Extremely happy with my performance in Parliament. I have not only participated in the highest number of debates and raised questions, I made the Centre to take note of the issues raised by me as member of parliamentary standing committees particularly commerce and industry. Union finance minister Arun Jaitley had personally appreciated me for my inputs and an indepth understanding of complicate issues of industry.
Q: What was your contribution to the constituency in the last five years?
A: I have secured maximum funds from both state and central governments in the last five years. We could start works worth nearly Rs 7948 crore in seven assembly segments. We spared nearly Rs 2197 crore for Guntur city comprising two assembly segments while Rs 600 crore for Mangalagiri, Rs 820 crore for Ponnur. Tenali got Rs 1,000 crore and Tadikonda secured Rs 800 crore. Prattipadu segment secured a massive amount of Rs 2531 crore. I have got Rs 1,000 crore for Under-Ground Drainage scheme for Guntur city which was left in a shambles due to the failure of local legislators Mustafa, Venugopala Reddy and Ravela Kishore Babu. I have also played crucial role in getting the capital city to Guntur district and contributed in the planning of capital city.

Q: Are you satisfied with the development initiated by you as an MP?
A: Frankly, Not! I should have done much better. Due to lack of executive powers in completing the works and spending funds, we could not push through some of the works. Although I feel happy that I could get so much of funds for the constituency development, completion of all the works would have made me much happier.
Q: Do you think that people were happy with your performance?
A: Peoples’ expectations, anticipations and aspirations are always very high. I strongly feel that they are happy with my performance with limited powers and role I had in the system. I feel that MPs should have executive powers to complete the projects planned by them as it also makes them accountable to the public and funds.
Q: What were your plans for the next term?
A: We need to take the infrastructure development in the constituency particularly in Guntur to the next level. Vijayawada city got benefitted from the developmental works taken up in and around the capital city in the first phase. I will plan big-ticket infrastructure projects for Guntur city as it is going to play very big role in grooming Amaravati into global city. People should bring TDP back into power to continue the planned projects and already initiated welfare programmes. The state will be pushed into troubles if TDP fails to get the popular mandate. We will complete IRR phase-III and take up new Road Under Bridges in three locations. The new flyover at Arundelpet will also be completed.
