AGRA: Nearly three weeks after police booked BSP Agra candidate for
model code of conduct violation, another
BSP candidate from
Fatehpur Sikri was booked on similar charges.
On Tuesday evening, Shreebhagwan Sharma alias Guddu Pandit was booked under IPC sections 171 H (Illegal payments in connection with an election) and 188 (Disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), after BJP coordinator of Fatehpur Sikir Subash Dhal lodged written complaint to election commission authorities with video evidence of Guddu Pandit traveling in scores of SUVs with his supporters by blowing high pitch hooters in the constituency for poll campaign.
Speaking to TOI, Subhash Dhal, the BJP party worker, said, “On Monday afternoon during poll campaign, 44-year-old Guddu Pandit was allegedly found intimidating local resident and travelled along with supporters in scores of SUVs by blowing hooters, which was a violation of model code of conduct and we lodged complaint about it.”
A video, shot by a bystander of Pandit’s cavalcade, corroborates Dhal’s claims.
Deeksha Sharma, additional superintendent of police and incharge of Fatehpur Sikir circle, said, “There were more than nine SUVs of BSP candidate’s cavalcade, which suggest that excessive funds were spent in the poll campaign against the prescribed guideline. The vehicles were also found blowing hooters in the video, which is a violation of government orders.”
Guddu Pandit originally hails from Noida, but is contesting from Fatehpur Sikri. According to his affidavit, he has seven criminal cases against him including extortion.
Last month BSP candidate from Agra Manoj Kumar Soni was booked by Itmad-ud-daula police for traveling in an SUV with BSP-SP flags hoisted on the car’s bonnet and rear during poll campaign.
Weeks later former BSP MLA, Chaudhary Bashir who is now contesting election as independent from Firozabad parliamentary constituency was booked by Mantola police of Agra city for violating model code of conduct.
