AGRA: The Mathura police on Friday arrested one of the five accused, Sonu, who threw acid on a woman police constable a day before while she was going for her duty at Krishna Janam Bhoomi temple.
Police said that accused Sonu was nabbed from Balajipuram area. During interrogation, Sonu told police that his associate Sanjay was known to the woman constable, Neelam Sharma for the past 10 years.
But she started distancing herself from him after getting a job in the police.
Sanjay was upset and he got annoyed when Neelam’s family members fixed her wedding.
He said to avenge his perceived humiliation, Sanjay decided to throw acid on her and contacted Himanshu who involved two others, Bobby and Kishan. “We all went to Khurja and bought two litres of acid for RS 600,” Sonu told police.
As Sanjay was aware of Neelam’s duty schedule, they reached her locality, Damodar, around 3:45am and waited for her to come out of her rented accommodation. As per her scheduled, she came out around 4am and Sanjay threw acid on her.
They all fled away in a Maruti zen car, but unfortunately the car was stopped at NH-2. From there Sanjay, Kishan and Bobby left together and Sonu and Himanshu fled to Bharatpur, said the police.
