Telangana candidate bags 7th rank in Civil Services exam

Thirty aspirants from Telangana, Andhra selected

An Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer from Miryalaguda secured the seventh rank in the Civil Services exams, the results of which were declared on Friday.

Varun Reddy Karnati secured the 7th rank, the top rank in both Telugu states, and he will be joining the Indian Administrative Service (IAS). A native of Miryalaguda in Nalgonda district, he was selected for IRS in 2016.

An IIT Bombay graduate in Computer Science, Varun dreamt of becoming an IAS officer and rejected offers from multinational companies to prepare for the exam. He went to interview in 2014, in his first attempt. In 2016, he couldn’t crack the Mains exam. However, in 2016, he got into IRS and is in training now. He did his schooling from Gudivada and Intermediate from Vijayawada.

Varun was inspired by his mother, a government servant, and senior IAS officer Poonam Malakondaiah to join the civil services. “He is a hard worker and never lost hope,” said Raja Reddy of R.C. Reddy Study Circle where he took coaching for some time.

Meanwhile, about 30 aspirants from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh are said to have cleared the interview and got into various services. About 50% of the aspirants shortlisted for the interview from the Telugu speaking States have been certified for services, said Gopala Krishna, director, Brain Tree-Hyderabad. He said the vacancies is far less than last year, and the number of candidates who have qualified is lower this year.

At the all India level, 759 candidates were declared qualified for appointment to various services. A total of 1,994 aspirants have made it to the personality test. Over 3 lakh aspirants appeared for the preliminary exam on June 3 last year, of whom 10,468 qualified for the Mains held from September 28 to October 7, 2018 .

Maheshwar Reddy (126), Kommi Pratap Shiva Kishore (153), Chirumamilla Vinay Kumar Chowdary (169), Sri Meghana (171), Gundalareddy Raghavendra (180), Mallu Chandrakanth Reddy (208), Anusha (375), B.V. Aswija (423), Vaishnavi (465), Mrugender Lal (551), Dheeraj (559), Srikar (570) and Sashikant (695).
