NEW DELHI: Special Cell of Delhi Police has arrested the kingpin of the western UP module of a drug supply syndicate that had turned into the prime supplier of contraband to Delhi. The man, Rashid, has been on the run from cops after two of associates were caught earlier.
When cops cornered him in Bareilly, he tried to jump from a two-storey house and flee. The cops also faced resistance from the locals and some of the community members when they tried to arrest him.
DCP (Special Cell) Sanjeev Yadav said that Rashid has been running this drug syndicate for the last three-four years with the help of his other associates.

Two of Rashid’s associates, Ajay and Praveen, were caught by Crime Branch on March 28, 2016 while they had come to supply drugs in Delhi. During interrogation, they had revealed that Rashid was the kingpin who has been controlling the syndicate from Bareilly. “A reward of Rs 50,000 was declared for his arrest and he was declared a proclaimed offender by a court,” said DCP Yadav.
He also disclosed that after the arrest of his associates, he had fled from Delhi and kept changing his location to evade the cops.
