VIRUDHUNAGAR

Two schoolboys and their uncle drowned in a pool downstream of Kullursandhai dam near here on Monday.

Police identified the deceased as M. Solaimurugan, 40, of Madurai and his nephews K. Hariharan, 14, and K. Adiseshan, 10.

The police said that Solaimurugan, who was working in a bakery in Madurai, had gone to his sister’s house in Virudhunagar to celebrate Panguni Pongal. On Monday morning, he took his nephews – one was studying Class IX and the other Class V – to buy fish at Kullursandhai dam.

On their way to the dam, they found a big pool formed by water overflowing through the weir. They decided to take bath in the pool and got into the water. A source said that they got into the deeper portion of the pool and one by one drowned as none of them knew swimming.

The bodies were fished out by local people. After post mortem, the bodies were handed over to the family members.

Soolakkarai police are investigating.
