BHU does a hat trick, retains its position in NIRF ranking

VARANASI: Banaras Hindu University (BHU) retained its third position in top 10 universities in the country in third consecutive year. President Ramnath Kovind declared the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF India Rankings 2019) at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi on Monday.
According to the university ranking, BHU came after Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru and Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.

“I am extremely happy to know that BHU as well as JNU retained their positions in top 10 universities of the country,” BHU vice chancellor Prof. Rakesh Bhatnagar told TOI. Before becoming BHU VC, Bhatnagar also served JNU as a professor. “The IISc is considered to be a university, but basically it rendered teaching in science and engineering, while BHU, which is considered to be a capital of knowledge, teaches all subjects,” he said adding that it is matter of great satisfaction and joy that BHU maintained its standards.
The NIRF rankings was released for a total of nine categories - Overall, Universities, Engineering, Colleges, Management, Pharmacy, Medical, Architecture, and Law.
This is the 4th edition of NIRF Rankings by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD). The first NIRF ranks were released in the year 2016. The NIRF was approved by the MHRD and launched by Minister of HRD in 2015. The NIRF rankings are based on these parameters - Teaching, Learning and Resources, Research and Professional Practices, Graduation Outcomes, Outreach and Inclusivity, and Perception.
According to records, IISc scored 82.28 points, JNU 68.68 point and BHU 64.55 points this year, while they scored 82.16, 67.57, 63.52 in 2018, and 83.28, 61.53 and 58.92 in 2017 respectively. In 2016, BHU stood at seventh position with 81.22 score. In overall category, BHU received 10th ranking in 2019, 9th in 2018 and 10th in 2017.
