Before joining BHU as vice-chancellor, Prof Rakesh Bhatnagar served as professor at JNU.
When TOI contacted him, he said: “There has been no change in the top three slots since 2017. I am extremely happy to know that BHU as well as JNU have retained their positions in top 10 universities of the country.”

“The IISc is considered to be a university, but basically it teaches science and engineering, while BHU, which is considered to be a capital of knowledge, teaches all subjects,” Bhatnagar said adding that it is matter of great satisfaction and joy that BHU maintained its standards.
The NIRF rankings were released for a total of nine categories — Overall, Universities, Engineering, Colleges, Management, Pharmacy, Medical, Architecture, and Law.
The first NIRF ranks were released in the year 2016. The NIRF was approved by the MHRD and launched by HRD minister in 2015. The NIRF rankings are based on various parameters like teaching, learning and resources, research and professional practices, graduation outcomes, outreach and inclusivity, and perception.
