Udupi tops in disposing complaints received using cVIGIL app of ECI
UDUPI: Udupi district that is a model for others in many aspects of administration is proving this yet again – this time during general elections. It is leading the way in terms of disposal of complaints received through Election Commission of India (ECI)s cVIGIL app across the state and is very much in sync with the Commission’s objectives of conducting a free, fair, transparent poll process with the accent on ethical voting without any favours or inducements.

As per data released by ECI, a total of 91 complaints have been received through this app in the district as on April 8. The district review committee has dropped 14 of these complaints, disposed 21 complaints at the level of district election officer or assistant election officers as the case may be. With regard to the remaining 56 complaints, the committee has scrutinised the same at respective level and taken action as deemed necessary.
Incidentally, while the high profile Hassan Lok Sabha constituency has received the highest number of 219 complaints, Udupi with just 91 complaints tops the list in finding 56 of these complaints to be true either by the assistant returning officer or the returning officer concerned. The other constituency that is drawing all attention – Mandya incidentally has received just 38 complaints and only 10 have been found to be true.
In neighbouring Dakshina Kannada, election authorities there have received 39 complaints and 24 have been found correct with AROs and RO dropping eight cases. Overall, the state has received 1706 complaints and 488 of these have been found to be true by the respective AROs/ROs while 570 have been dropped at their respective levels. The authorities are duty bound to address complaints received through this app in a time bound manner.
Vidya Kumari, assistant returning officer and additional DC said the only reason for Udupi topping the cVIGIL chart and action taken report is the proactive step taken by Hephsiba Rani Koralapati, district election officer and deputy commissioner. People can lodge a complaint on host of violations of the model code of conduct including inducements, making provocative speeches, defacement of public space and publication of paid news.
