Oman- Developments in medicine, healthcare focus of forum


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- The second Royal Hospital International Conference will begin at the Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre on Thursday, with the participation of more than 400 international and local speakers from different medical specialties. It will be held under the patronage of H H Sayyid Shihab bin Tariq bin Taimur al Said, Advisor to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said and Chairperson of The Research Council.

Through 18 workshops, 120 scientific sessions and 400 lectures, the three-day conference will discuss many topics such as anaesthesia, critical care, medical responsibility, paediatric, internal medicine, hyperbaric medicine, quality and patient safety.

Other topics to be discussed are histopathology, oncology, nursing, gynaecology, pharmacy, general surgery, urology, radiology and molecular imaging, nuclear medicine, staff health and wellness, as well as administrative and financial affairs.

The conference will be organised by the Ministry of Health (MoH) in cooperation with Oman Medical Specialty Board (OMSB), Oman Medical Association along with a number of government and private health institutions.

The opening ceremony will include speeches by Dr Qasim al Salmi, director of The Royal Hospital, Dr Bassim al Bahrani, chairperson of organising committee of the conference along with a scientific lecture on innovation in patient safety by Lord Prof Darzi of Denham, director of the Institute of Global Health Innovation at Imperial College London.

The conference aims to review the latest developments in medicine, draw upon regional and international expertise and learn about the newest techniques, medicines and devices by pharmaceutical companies.

The conference will also see a series of conferences covering many specialties of The Royal Hospital. It is targeting the medical and paramedical staff from The Royal Hospital, other health institutions in the sultanate, private sectors and civil society associations.

A number of workshops related to urology and scientific researches will also be held before the inauguration ceremony.
