Andhra Pradesh: Speaker Kodela Sivaprasada Rao attacked by YSRCP workers

Tension gripped Palnadu region as clashes broke out between the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and YSRCP workers in Narasaraopet, Gurazala and Sattenapalle assembly constituencies during the polling for general elections on Thursday.

GUNTUR: With keen contests among key political parties boiling over, clashes were reported across constituencies in the district on Thursday.
The situation, however, looked peaceful in Guntur city and Krishna delta region comprising Tenali, Repalle, Bapatla and Ponnur assembly segments.
In the volatile Palnadu region, TDP and YSRC workers clashed in Narasaraopet, Gurazala and Sattenapalle assembly constituencies.

The situation took a turn for the worse at Inumetla village, where AP assembly speaker and TDP candidate for Sattenapalle assembly constituency Kodela Sivaprasada Rao was attacked by a group of people allegedly owing allegiance to YSRC. The incident happened when Kodela reached Inumetla village in Rajupalem mandal to oversee the polling process on Thursday morning and entered into an argument with YSRC workers present at the polling venue.
When Kodela tried to enter the polling station, he was stopped and shoved by the opposition group.With TDP activists too joining the tussle, the situation slipped out of control. Sensing trouble, Kodela’s security staff immediately whisked him away from the spot. Kodela also suffered minor injuries in the tussle between TDP and YSRCP workers. As the news spread, clashes between TDP and YSRC cadre were reported from other parts of the constituency too.
